Why White Fang

Am often asked by my friends and acquaintances as to why i chose the name White Fang ?

Well, to put it simply, the name is catchy enough ! :)

Let me take you to the story of the real White Fang.

White Fang, as we all know is written by Jack London, (writer of The Call of the Wild)  a story of a small wolf - dog hybrid, who was born in a cold and damp wintry morning in far-far snows of Canada. down may be the Eukon valley, or somewhere nearby..

He grew up alone, a typical lone wolf, and had a difficult puphood.
Kicked, challenged, fighting for survival against the breed of wolfs, pups, bigger pups., beaten, bruised, and left for dead.

But somehow he finds a way, always to survive. By a combination of sheer fortune, fight, pluck, valour and then gradually growing up and learning diplomacy, with a dash of cunningness thrown in and a desire to be on top of all things.

Thats what the significance was. Ultimately, he grows up to be the leader of the pack, fearless and commanding in his domain, master and surveyor of what he oversaw.

This novel is in effect an anti- thesis of The Call of the Wild, where my another favorite protagonist, Buck, turns from a lazy, well fed, suave, sophisticated, rich, domesticated dog to a fierce leader of a pack in the wild.

But the tone of both the stories stuck on me.

I  read 'The Call of the Wild' when I was may be 12-13. I read ' White Fang' when I was may be 22.  Till date whenever I read those, there is a thrill that goes down my spine and exhalts and thrills me.

And of course, as a footnote, I do relate to White Fang a lot.

I am...........................  White Fang.
